The Centre for Global Engineering (CGEN) was created as part of an initiative by Dean Cristina Amon to ensure that the education and research missions of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering are adapting to trends in globalization and global citizenship. The aim of the centre is to better prepare engineering graduates for a global workplace and to encourage high-impact research projects which address major development challenges across the world.  Formally launched in May 2009, the Centre  is represented by a  community of scholars who share an interest in global engineering issues and it provides a mechanism for exchanging ideas and sharing best practices that can potentially influence research directions to better align with global challenges as well as enhance the global impact of engineering research.
