Research

Since 2014, more than 25 CGEN-affiliated faculty have engaged in a range of strategic research initiatives that are addressing pressing challenges in global development. While those projects typically rely on engineering innovation, they often draw on insights from a multitude of disciplines, and they are always conducted in concert with change-makers on the ground, be they local NGOs, tribal councils, or social enterprises.

Ultimately, our aim is to develop context-appropriate, evidence-based, market-viable solutions to problems that matter to communities, and to build their technical capacity for implementation and scale-up. This means rigorous lab-based research combined with fieldwork and consistent stakeholder engagement. In so doing, we enable our teams to understand local perspectives and needs first-hand, and ensure that our graduates are compassionate, global citizens with the skills to enact change.

Attention Prospective Students

If you are an undergraduate or graduate student interested in participating in our global engineering research projects, consult our list of core research faculty on this page and reach out to the professor whose research best aligns with your interests. In your email, be sure to include your C.V. and a short description of why you are interested in working with them.
