Nitish Ranjan Sarker

Dr. Nitish Ranjan Sarker is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Water and Energy Research Lab (WERL) in MIE and the Strategic Partnership and Program Development Lead at CGEN. As a cross-disciplinary researcher, Nitish focuses on technological and systemic innovation of drinking water and clean-energy systems and their appropriate customization based on target communities’ needs and constraints. Besides, he teaches technological, systemic, and financial innovations in clean energy growth and transition toward a net-zero water-energy nexus through CGEN courses and workshops. At CGEN, Nitish works closely with UofT faculty from different disciplines to define research initiatives, develop new research proposals, and structure implementation pathways to tackle major sustainable development challenges. At WERL, Nitish does more hands-on research, e.g., developing data-driven, low-cost, and appropriate WASH solutions for ‘last-mile’ communities. Additionally, Nitish sits on the executive committee of the International Water Association Young Waters Professional in Canada (as a program director) and manages Pan-Canadian events to dissipate the social, economic, and technological aspects of Canadian water research. As a recognition of his exceptional leadership and research on water and energy accessibility in low and middle-income countries, Nitish was vested with many prestigious sustainability accolades, including the Mortenson Global Engineering Award.
